Let’s begin this article with a definition of search engine optimization (SEO) and then I will explain briefly how SEO works for you.
Definition of search engine optimization
SEO means search engine optimization, which is the art of ranking greater or higher on the pages of a search engine.
Put simply, search engine optimization is the process of optimizing your content online so that search engines show it as a top result for searches of a particular keyword.
The Components of Search Engine Optimisation
Now that you have an idea of the meaning of SEO, we will take a look at some of its components in detail.
There are two aspects of the SEO strategy you need to consider, and you need to choose one of them at least in the very early stages of planning your article content.
The two aspects are white hat SEO strategies and black hat SEO strategies.
Some features of each of them can be seen below:
Features of white hat SEO strategies
- Relevant content
- Well labeled images
- Relevant links and references
- Complete sentences with good spelling and grammar
- Standard-compliant HTML
- Unique and relevant page titles
Features of black hat SEO strategies (not as good or as ethical)
- Duplicate content
- Invisible text and stuffed keywords
- Cloaking or re-directing the user to another site or page
- Links from sites with non-relevant content
Two Categories of Search Engine Optimization
There are also two categories of SEO which you need to be aware of too, they being: on-page SEO and off-page SEO.
On-page SEO is the concern of a search engine when they look at all the ranking factors that they influence by directly looking at the page you wish to optimize, such as your headlines, content, and page structure.
There are three things to note while enforcing on-page SEO. These are:
Content – Google and other search engines always tries to give you the best experience possible by directing searchers to the greatest content it can find.
This means that your number one duty to do well with SEO is to produce great content.
SEO is not dissimilar to any other skill and great results will always come with training from a great teacher.
Quality – While delivering the best-quality content would make you stand out from the crowd, it is still the very beginning of any successful SEO effort.
Coming up with great quality content is not easy in all reality, after all, it means that you have to become a teacher, an expert in your field.
Keyword research – It is essential that you carry out your keyword research before writing an article and this is a crucial part of quality content.
You will need to include your targeted keyword in your content headline and the main body, so you can see the need to choose your targeted keyword before you start writing!
Off-page SEO refers to all the other things search engines take a look at, which aren’t influenced by you in any way.
They depend on other sources, such as social networks, your competitor’s blogs in your and similar niches, etc.
The following will give you an idea of what the search engines are looking for.
Authority – Search engines determine the overall authority of your site by looking at two types of authority:
- Domain authority: this has to do with how widespread your domain name is.
- Page authority: relates to how authoritative the content of a single page is.
Bounce rate – Your bounce rate is a measure of how many people view only “one page” on your site before leaving immediately.
Good content, fast loading times, usability, and getting the right readers based on your niches are all parts of efforts to decrease your bounce rate.
Domain age – Older domains get more recognition from search engines than newer ones mainly because anything that has been around for a while has value to a degree.
Links are one of the most important parts of SEO just like all the other areas but they are what the search engines look for and something we need to build.
A link looks this ===> Affiliate Marketing Legend <=== in case you weren’t sure of the terminology and links to another page on your site or to another related website.
To get the best back links possible, you have to consider the following three factors:
Quality of links – While links are not the main thing in ranking, when looking at links, the quality of the links relating to your site is vital.
The quality of your links is a big determining factor rather than the number of links you have.
Building quality back links is all about reaching out to the authentic sources and offering value in exchange for a strong link!
Anchor text – The anchor text is the text that other websites use when they link you.
The more natural the link text is, the better your chance to rank higher.
Number of links – Finally, the number of total links you have matters as well, and you need to build high quality back links over time.
